Midwest Playscapes Celebrates Turtle Island Playground Revival

Midwest Playscapes is proud to celebrate the grand reopening of Turtle Island Playground in Beloit, Wisconsin on Thursday, May 30, 2025, following a $1 million renovation featuring inclusive, nature-inspired play elements. This project reflects our ongoing commitment to designing imaginative, accessible spaces that serve the evolving needs of communities across the Midwest.

The reimagined Turtle Island Playground pays tribute to famed adventurer and Beloit native Roy Chapman Andrews. It offers a one-of-a-kind experience with trails, walkways, and vibrant play zones that spark creativity and exploration.

In close collaboration with the City of Beloit, Playworld, and principal landscape architect Blake Theisen of Parkitecture + Planning, Midwest Playscapes helped bring this vision to life through innovative new features:

  • An accessible merry-go-round featuring images of Roy Chapman Andrews

  • A toddler-specific playground

  • A turtle swing

  • Sensory boards to support developmental play through sight, sound, and touch

  • Two new shade sails for added comfort

  • Enhanced pour-in-place surfacing around the stream to improve drainage and safety

This project also coincides with the debut of our new brand identity, which reflects over 30 years of experience in creating sustainable, inclusive playgrounds. Our updated look and logo embody our core values: innovation, inclusion, and environmental stewardship.

“At Midwest Playscapes, we’ve always believed that play is powerful,” said Andrew Pudwill, President of Midwest Playscapes. “This refreshed identity aligns with our mission to be a forward-thinking partner for communities and landscape architects, and Turtle Island is a perfect example of how thoughtful design can transform public space.”
