Complex Playground Installations in the Midwest

Klapprich Park, Wayzata, MN

Designing a destination playground is one thing. Installing it on a steep hillside with tight tolerances, challenging access, and large pre-assembled components is another. For landscape architects, complex playground construction is where design intent gets protected, or compromised. At Midwest Playscapes, we help LAs carry the concept through real-world logistics, safety, and sequencing so the finished park matches the plan.

A Hillside Build That Required Real Construction Muscle

This project was a great example of the construction capability our team brings to complex sites:

  • A 190-ton crane

  • Nearly 200 feet of horizontal lifting distance

  • Major elevation changes

  • Large, pre-assembled Earthscape play components

  • Tight tolerances from start to finish

This wasn’t a standard install. It required careful planning, precise coordination, and an experienced crew that knows crane picks, difficult access, and non-standard site conditions.

Why Build Strategy Matters as Much as the Design

On projects like this, every step has to be executed correctly to keep the site safe, efficient, and on schedule. From foundations and sequencing to lift planning and final placement, small misses early can create big problems later. When custom components are pre-assembled, there’s little room for improvisation, which makes upfront coordination essential.

Your Partner for “Anything But Simple”

We’re proud of the Midwest Playscapes team and grateful for the trust our partners place in us, and for the collaboration with Earthscape on a truly unique installation. If your next playground project involves slopes, cranes, tight access, or complex logistics, we’d love to be part of the conversation.
